Aug 2011: Kassiopi, Corfu

After the Durrell bay, we were wondering where to go. Well, on top of the island, we noticed a place called as Kassiopi. Now there’s a great place to be in. So off we went there.

Photobucket

On the way, we stopped at this “photo” point. Nice view, eh?

Photobucket

Boats running hard across the Ionian Sea.

Photobucket

While a swallow goes across our view.

Photobucket

Panning left

Photobucket

And then the hillside again.

Photobucket

Having a bit of a snooze against the rocks.

Photobucket

Albania…

But we kept on driving till we reached Kassiopi

Photobucket

The lovely warm streets of Kassiopi.

Photobucket

Lovely flowers on the walk about in the village. Then we reached the bay

Its a lovely little bay, very nice and quiet. We had some icecream and cold drinks at a cafe and then started on our way back.

Photobucket

Lovely warm houses

Photobucket

A small shop selling beach toys.

Photobucket

Rows of flags on top of a restaurant, presumably to attract tourists?

Photobucket

This was amusing, this tire was covered by this cardboard box, presumably to save it from the sun?

Photobucket

Jasmine? there is no sign of Jasmine anywhere, grumbles.

Photobucket

The roads were empty, people must be either on the beach or having a siesta.

Photobucket

We sat down in a cool pub to cool down. The pub was lovely

Photobucket

Dead or alive, lol

Photobucket

Interesting wall with a built in branch. What’s going on?

Photobucket

The walls were papered over with photographs, presumably of people who had fun here?

Photobucket

The bar owner is a fan of Olympiakos, eh?

Photobucket

Lovely mirror.

Photobucket

More photographs

Photobucket

Welcome to Kostas Bar.

Photobucket

Walked down to the harbour and were greeted by these swallows.

Photobucket

Cannons pointing out….

Photobucket

The lovely pretty little harbour.

Photobucket

A boat heading out to sea.

Photobucket

Greek Dancing? Looking at the photos, I wouldnt call it dancing, lol

Photobucket

Typical greek signs on the towels.

Photobucket

Yes, good idea, come to Corfu to enjoy Sunday Roast. lol

Photobucket

Lovely lamps

Photobucket

Photobucket

And a Mexican restaurant!!!!

Photobucket

Photobucket

This building has seen better days, the shutters are falling apart.

Photobucket

Fishing nets….

Photobucket

Hmmmm, I would be careful with where I put my hands. In between the perambulations in Kassiopi, we saw a lovely little church, unfortunately closed but the outside was lovely. The next essay deals with that.

Aug 2011: Durrell Bay Corfu

The next stop in our day trip was to check out the house where Lawrence Durrell stayed.

Photobucket

Parked the car and the family joined me.

Photobucket

Well, we had a nice sign pointing to the direct direction.

Photobucket

Here’s the white house.

Photobucket

And you can rent it. You know something, this is really a lovely little villa.

Photobucket

Moving down into the villa.

Photobucket

Whitewashed walls, green wooden shutters, sunlight sparkling off the sea, what more does a man want when he wants to write?

Photobucket

We went down to the covered courtyard where there are some tables laid out for meals and stuff.

Photobucket

The bay has lovely little boats.

Photobucket

See what I mean by tables.

Photobucket

The clear blue waters of the bay.

Photobucket

An olive plant.

Photobucket

The tables are placed dangerously next to the edge, lol.

Photobucket

The right hand side of the bay has these forests. Very nice.

Photobucket   Photobucket

A motor boat. And look, another one

Photobucket

Mamma is going around looking at the posters.

Photobucket

Diya is admiring the boat shaped ice cream unit.

Photobucket

Mamma observing the olive plant.

Photobucket

There’s Albania in the distance.

Photobucket

A sailboat….

Photobucket

Some lovely houses overlooking the bay.

Photobucket

Some very expensive boats.

Photobucket

Another motor boat.

Photobucket

We had a nice lunch and I had an excellent beer.

Photobucket

Now doesnt that look brilliant?
 Photobucket

Finished it and took off, and then saw this great sight from top of the road.

I loved the idea of having a place to sit and write like what Lawrence Durrell had has a huge appeal. Maybe one day…
