We went to Lake District with my sister and brother in law, Shilpi and Promit for a 4 day break. I was armed and dangerous with my camera and here are some of the pics we took. If you want to cut straight to the slideshow which has bigger resolutions and more photos, please click here. This set of photographs are for the town of Ambleside and its environs up to the Lake Windermere lakeside which is about quarter of a mile walk from our hotel.
So I wake up to this view from our hotel room.
Tennis courts and a mini golf course
Croquet court, Crazy golf and some other bits and bobs in front of the hotel.
The cemetery of the church, but there is a bigger post coming along later on this church and its environs.
Far left view from the hotel room.
buggering around with the settings, a black and white photo.
The slopes are still full of snow and ice.
Ambleside, its like a strange mixture of an English country town, a Welsh stone village and an Alpine Village.
One of the three main roads through Ambleside.
Lovely little sign post for the hotel next to ours.
This is a stone horse trough. Unused, of course.
The whole town, the walls, all are made out of this local grey stone.
Lovely iron work on the houses and with the lamps.
Even in the bucolic surroundings of Lake District, the signs of modern jet set life aren't far away.
Nooks and crannies, footpaths and hedges
Evening light. Found the various colour gradations up to the mountains from the meadows to the skies quite interesting.
Another view of the distant mountains
This meadow contains the remains of an old Roman Fort, more about that in a later post.
How vegetation reacts to stone walls.
Diya and Guria on the jetty.
This is the inn where we had our dinner.
Next morning was a grey, damp, rainy day.
The hotel was also looking grey.
A cute little cinema was in town.
Another of the main roads in Ambleside. Curiously enough, the village was full of outdoor clothing and equipment shops. Huge.
The animals and birds weren't particularly happy with the weather.
The crests were hidden behind clouds
The church in the distance, i was in this road when I was trying to find the bridge house which I finally managed to find, and will blog in a later post.
The village was full of bed and breakfast places as well.
Very early morning when I went off for a walk while the family was sleeping. I think it was about 7 in the morning, one of the main crossroads in town.
A steep path up in the village with a very old tired dog sitting patiently outside the door. Presumably waiting to be fed or taken for a walk.
An extraordinary house, i wasnt sure what this was for. Had quite a lot of loo’s, mind you.
Old and new buildings, both using the same building stone.
Found the typo amusing :)
