I stayed at the Semiramis Intercontinental Hotel at Cairo and had a very nice view from the hotel room balcony. Here are some of the photographs of the Nile and the city from there. This time I had a good camera and the viewpoint was very nice.
Here is a view of the bridge over the Nile and the Cairo Tower in the background. This was early evening and the air was very smoggy indeed.
A barge powering down the the river carrying what looks like gravel.
A felucca going across the river.
An extraordinary sight, I was reminded of a low fat toad, but the boat builders obviously were trying to pitch an authentic Egyptian picture, with upturned ends and lots of gilding. I wouldn't be caught dead in one of these.
Lovely carved wood work on the mirror and here’s a strange fat bloke. Totally unlike the real handsome slim wonderful chap that I am :P
Cairo Tower during a lovely sunset.
Another view of the setting sun behind the Cairo Tower.
The bridge over the river at sunset.
Floating around on the pool.
The Opera House in the twilight
A plane flying over the Cairo Tower.
The bridge over the Nile in the night.
Cairo Tower all lit up.
The Opera House at night, all lit up, it gleams like as if its covered with molten gold flowing over its walls. Lovely sight.
The Nile showing reflections of different types of lights.
The hotel.
One of the big Nile Boats all lit up.
A long distance view of the city early morning.
Statues and pillars on the far side of the bridge.
The Opera House in the morning, it is still quite imposing.
The red skeleton in the background is strange, looks like its a roof or a dome being constructed on this mosque. Not sure what this is.
You really cannot get away from minarets in Cairo, the city of a 1000 minarets.
Searchlights wake up the night. Here is the slideshow with higher resolutions and some more photographs which show the city a bit better.
